Client Profile
Following two years of ongoing direct engagement with the University of London team, it has been a pleasure working alongside GVAV to deliver this transformational project at the Senate House Library. The team at University of London has made full use of the services available to them through Hewshott to deliver truly professional, high-quality teaching and meeting room environments for their staff and students.
Site Surveys
Once appointed, Hewshott consultants attended site to review the spaces, performing a walk through with user teams to discuss and better understand the lived user experience – the use-cases, existing technology and the room environment.
Acoustic Surveys
With users reporting specific audio issues in the spaces, and the onsite surveys capturing that the rooms were acoustically poor, our acoustics team attended site and assessed the acoustic properties of each room. The specialist acoustician made specific recommendations for treatment that ultimately led to the acoustic panels installation. It cannot be understated the impact that these panels have subsequently made to the acoustic properties of the teaching spaces, greatly reducing reverberation and increasing intelligibility.
Requirements Gathering
Hewshott liaised directly with both system users and technical teams through a series of onsite workshops to understand the needs and requirements of the end-user and maintenance teams, capturing these needs as the foundation on which to build the subsequent AV designs.
Following on from the initial requirements gathering, Hewshott provided the client team with a design-brief document to assist with progressing internal decision-making. This foundational document clearly communicated expectations, ideas, and specifications for the potential AV solutions which could be proposed to best meet the captured needs and requirements of the various client teams from the previous stages, as well as initial budgetary estimates for the different solutions.
This stage, where we look ahead to the desired end result in order to inform the design process from start to finish, is the most important step in any consultancy engagement.
Design
On approval of the design brief, and with the path forward chosen by the client team, Hewshott were able to embark upon the design process, progressing through initial conceptual scheme designs (establishing early power, data and containment requirements), and on to full detailed design, providing schematics, elevation and plan drawings and a full bill of materials. As a part of this process, we also provided direct input into the client tender process, assisting in the development of supplementary technical documentation issued to bidders.
Project Support and Witness Testing
Retained through the duration of the installation to assist with technical queries, design amendments and ongoing issue resolution, Hewshott was on-hand throughout to assist the client team with specialist AV knowledge, returning to the completed rooms on completion to ensure that they were installed to a standard meeting the functionality and capability expectations of the design intent.
