Unilever is a global giant, employing over 163,000 people and specialising in consumer products in nutrition, hygiene and personal care.
Their new corporate HQ in Singapore was relocated to Mapletree Business Park. Over six large floors, the project comprised meeting rooms complete with room booking system and an executive boardroom. Also there were demo rooms, a reception/ foyer area, a requirement for digital signage, an office-wide PA system, and an IPTV multicast solution.
Hewshott designed the communications technology for all six floors. An IPTV multicast solution was set up across the whole office for in-house announcements and broadcasts, as well as video streaming, from multiple sources including TV, DVD and signage material. Also across the office was a PA system, where the audio signal is distributed using UTP. Using digital signal processors helped to reduce the amount of equipment needed.
Of the 85 meeting rooms, the medium and large rooms were equipped with either audio conferencing or video conferencing, and in some instances, both. The smaller rooms each had a different design, ranging from single LED display to multiple projection systems, or interactive white boards. To facilitate room reservations, an asset management system was installed, and with bookable rooms having a touch panel outside the door that interacts with the room bookings management system.
To create a highly visual reception lobby, a video wall was designed using the latest compact technologies, the first installation of its type in Singapore. Twenty individual tiles, in a 5 x 4 configuration at the lobby level, and another configuration of 6 x 1 at the reception area enable video streaming and presentation of other in-house content.
This design has set new standards for Unilever, and has opened a wealth of opportunity and possibilities for their marketing communications teams to explore and seek delivery of consistent material and branding worldwide.
