Western Australian Institute of Sport

About This Project

Hewshott provided AV and acoustic consultancy for the Western Australian Institute of Sport – High Performance Sports Centre with the building offering athlete training and analysis facilities on the ground floor and staff administration on the first floor.

The AV brief was centred around the client’s need to capture and analyse video content for biomechanics purposes. This was required not only for the indoor training facilities, but also for the outdoor pool. This was achieved by way of dedicated mounting solutions throughout the facility, allowing a number of high resolution cameras to be mounted where required. System control is supplied in each area by way of colour touch screen control panels, allowing full control over the sources being distributed to the large format display screens found in each area. A flexible, time synchronised routing of solution was specified allowing the majority of sources to be captured and analysed by a centrally located ingest server.

The upper floor is used for administration purposes and comprises of meeting rooms, a boardroom and a lecture room/training room. The lecture and training room have an operable wall and the specified AV solution allows for the flexible configuration of the rooms. A capture system has also been supplied with a high resolution camera capable of recording lectures and presentations for later viewing.

For acoustics the centre had a technological requirement for minimum vibration to be achieved on sensors that monitor athletes. Hewshott provided advice to the architects and structural engineers for this purpose throughout the design. We have given technical advice in layman’s terms, allowing the client to understand the technical requirements and challenges of the project.  We also undertook detailed tests to determine the noise levels and character of the gym equipment and machinery that would be used in the new facility, in order to deliver the appropriate acoustic response for this facility.
